How we select our tutors
Academic ability matters. So do clear explanations, sound judgement and the way a tutor supports your child.
Updated 19 September 2026ABN 63 858 539 736Our academic standard
A 95+ ATAR is our starting point, with no minimum tutoring experience for this pathway. Applicants below 95 must have a raw VCE study score of at least 40 in a relevant subject and at least six months of tutoring experience. This intake requires completed high school with a VCE certificate. Every applicant must meet Ivory’s screening and child-safety requirements; academic results do not guarantee selection.
An academic result alone does not qualify an applicant to teach every subject or school stage. We assess suitability for the subjects and levels they will actually support.
Assessment before approval
Our selection process requires evidence and an individual assessment before a tutor is approved to work with students.
- Identity and age verification. Tutors must be at least 18.
- Verification of relevant academic records and claimed achievements.
- An interview, subject knowledge assessment and teaching demonstration.
- Reference checks relevant to the applicant’s suitability and experience.
- A current Working with Children Check, or a legally recognised equivalent, appropriate to the work and jurisdiction before lessons begin.
Safe practice and ongoing suitability
Tutors must complete child-safety induction and agree to Ivory’s code of conduct, communication rules and reporting requirements. We record the screening evidence, academic pathway and approved subjects, and monitor required check renewals.
Tutors must disclose changes affecting their eligibility or suitability. Checks are one part of a wider safeguarding process; they are not a guarantee that a person has no criminal history or that a concern can never arise.
We consider family feedback and respond to concerns about teaching quality or conduct. Contact Parent Support if you would like us to review your tutor match.
